Louise Bourgeois

Louise Bourgeois puts all her emotions, experiences or the pain she felt into her work. For her, creation is like writing a diary, as a way to express herself. She made works with all kinds of form, from drawing to sculpture to installation. Every work she

made is unreservedly expressing her own world.

Maman (1999)

"Maman" is the most intimate expression of Bourgeois's love for her mother. She considered a spider have the same qualities as her mother. Her mother was a textile worker and she was constantly repairing the 'scattered net' in the family.

"[...] because my best friend was my mother and she was deliberate, clever, patient, soothing, reasonable, dainty, subtle, indispensable, neat, and useful as an araignée. She could also defend herself, and me, by refusing to answer ‘stupid’, inquisitive, embarrassing personal questions." (Quoted in Tate Modern 2000, p.62.)

I was touched by the work and it reminds me of my mother as well. The slender limbs are supporting a heavy body, which under enormous invisible pressure. Sometimes she will stay in a place for a long time, and no one will know what she is thinking about, but a little movement can immediately alarm her. I am always being protected under her arms.

The glitchy arithmetic digital images are combining by the typewriter's index of letters and symbols. The typewriter drawings present the transformation of digital imagery to a physical pictorial space through a typewriter. In the artist statement from his website, he claims that "I am driven by the search for an analog translation of digital imagery. I utilize this printing method as a means of producing paintings in a wider sense." This is one of the ways to bring the digital image into the physical world.
